Matia Wilson, MSW, LCSW

Matia is originally from Vermont where she received B.As in Psychology and Anthropology and began her work with youth in the field of Special Education. She moved to Jackson in 2012 to work as the Head Wrangler at a local dude ranch and explore the mountains. Moving to Laramie, WY she attended the University of Wyoming for her Master of Social Work. While at the UW she worked with student veterans and undergraduates through the University’s counseling center and focused her degree on clinical practice and community outreach. Matia moved back to Jackson to pursue her passion of working with young adults and teens, aiming to take a systemic approach to therapeutic interventions.

Mackenzie Kirkpatrick, MSW, LCSW

In 2020, McKenzie graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services from Southern Oregon University. During her time as an undergraduate student, she simultaneously worked for the Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) in various capacities, providing essential support to families. While working at ODHS, McKenzie realized her desire to work more directly with young individuals, she transitioned to becoming a School Social Worker at a public high school in Southern Oregon. In this role, McKenzie offered support to high school students, addressing their social, emotional, and behavioral needs. In 2023, she earned her Master of Social Work from Portland State University, further expanding her expertise in the field. With over eight years of experience working with youth and families in the public sector, McKenzie is thrilled to join the TYFS team. As a therapist at Red Top Meadows, McKenzie provides comprehensive therapy services to the youth residents of the residential treatment and therapeutic wilderness program. With her knowledge, compassion, and dedication, McKenzie is committed to empowering young individuals and guiding them towards a brighter future.

Kayla Barglowski, MSW, LCSW

Originally from Connecticut, Kayla has always loved the mountains and is so excited to be in Jackson. Kayla first received a BS in Childhood and Special Education from New York University in 2017. After teaching for a few years, she began the shift to social work, wanting to support children and families in meeting their needs. Kayla received a Master in Social Work from the University of Connecticut in 2023 and is thrilled to be a part of the TYFS family. She strives to empower youth and their families through processing stressors, understanding emotions, and identifying skills and strategies that work for them.

Margaret Brigham, MSW, LCSW

Margaret holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from Webster University in Geneva, Switzerland. She works with children, adolescents, families, and individuals providing therapy and family advocacy support. She currently lives in Jackson with her husband and three children.

Emily Sloan, MSW, LCSW

Emily is from Connecticut and moved to Jackson after graduating from Sewanee: The University of the South in 2018, where she received a BA in English and Psychology. She worked as a Head Teacher at a local preschool for 2 years, during which time she developed close relationships with her students and their families. Wanting to expand her clinical knowledge, Emily transitioned to work as childcare staff at the Van Vleck House while attending the Master of Social Work hybrid program through the University of Wyoming. After graduating with an MSW in 2023, Emily joined the Hirschfield team to continue supporting the community. Emily aims to empower and support children and families through strength-based, holistic interventions.

Hailing from all corners of the country, Van Vleck Child Care Staff are tasked with the daily care and supervision of our residents. Each of these individuals excels at building relationships with our clients and creating a safe and predictable environment. Creating this environment requires establishing healthy boundaries, reinforcing choices and behaviors through the use of natural and logical consequences, helping residents develop internal self-control by highlighting new growth and change as well as engaging in enriching activities. Child Care Staff undergo 30 hours per year of in-service training on topics including:

  • Professional ethics and conduct
  • Strengths-Based, Solution Focused and Competency-Based treatment approaches
  • Understanding the effects of trauma on child development
  • Right Response system of crisis management
  • Emergency procedures
  • Medication management
  • Suicide Prevention
  • Adolescent development
