Family-Based Youth Suicide Training
This free, one-day workshop is open to everyone and designed for the “gatekeepers” in young people’s lives: teachers, coaches, youth workers, therapists, clinical staff, and anyone in a youth-focused role who may be first to notice when a young person is struggling. Offered by the ABFT International Training Institute, it introduces empirically supported, family-based practices for managing adolescent suicide risk. There is no cost to attend, with an option to donate. Teton Youth & Family Services believes this training is vital for our community.
What you’ll learn
- Risk assessment: Recognize risk factors and warning signs, understand how standardized measures are used, and learn how to decide what level of support a young person needs. This section also covers documentation, confidentiality, and including caregivers ethically.
- Safety planning: Learn a family-based approach that makes caregivers a foundation of support while helping them manage their own anxiety. You’ll practice these skills through role-play.
- Family engagement: Learn how to engage families despite barriers such as stigma, lack of trust, or shame.

ABOUT THE SERIES
Teton Youth & Family Services is proud to bring the ABFT International Training Institute to Jackson this fall.
Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT) is a manualized, empirically supported family therapy model designed to address the processes underlying adolescent suicide risk and depression. It is also used with trauma, anxiety, and as an adjunct to eating disorder treatment.
Are you a clinician? A three-day ABFT Introductory Workshop Series follows on October 21–23, 2026 ($175, clinicians only).
