Job Title: Jackson Hole Leadership Program (JHLP) Lead Staff
Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
Salary/Weekly Wage: Planning and coordination pre-phase 1 or during phase 2 - $27.50/hr.
During Phase 1: $1320/week. If on a phase 2 trip: $2200/week.
Employment Dates: May 19, 2025 – August 22, 2025

Program Overview

The Jackson Hole Leadership Program (JHLP) is a summer initiative for youth in Jackson, Wyoming, designed to foster leadership, self-confidence, and positive decision-making through experiential outdoor activities. The program is divided into two phases:

Phase 1: For youth entering 5th to 7th grade. This phase consists of week-long day sessions with one overnight camping trip. Activities include games, team-building initiatives, and various outdoor experiences.

Phase 2: For youth entering 8th to 10th grade. This phase offers a more intensive experience, including a three-night, four-day backpacking adventure followed by a whitewater rafting trip.

Roles & Responsibilities 

Qualifications:

    • At least 21 years of age
    • CPR/First-Aid certified (Wilderness First Responder preferred)
    • Minimum one year of experience working with youth in an outdoor setting
    • Strong leadership, communication, and risk assessment skills
    • Comfortable independently leading activities for groups of up to 16 children

Responsibilities:

    • Serve as a primary leader and mentor for Field Staff.
    • Coordinate staff training week with the Program Manager. 
    • Ensure overall program safety and quality.
    • Facilitate daily programming, team-building exercises, and outdoor adventures.
    • Support risk management and decision-making in dynamic outdoor environments
    • Foster a positive staff culture of transparent and constructive feedback.
    • Provide feedback and guidance to Field Staff throughout the Phase 1
    • Support Program Manager with Phase 2 training, trip logistics, and preparation.
    • Act as a wilderness field staff for Phase 2 trips.

This is a seasonal position with Teton Youth & Family Services, concluding in late August. Exceptional performance may lead to future opportunities, including returning as a JHLP Facilitator in subsequent summers.
