Job Title: English/Language Arts/Humanities Teacher

Summary
    Core teacher for Language Arts, American Studies, World Studies / Geography, and Life Skills Our students are a range of adolescent males aged 12 to 17. We can have up to 14 students enrolled at any one time.
Essential Job Functions

Provide high quality, standards and research based, education to all students. 

  • Collaborate with faculty and school administration to develop a curriculum map and unit plans for Life Skills, as well as Physical Education, Educational Games & Initiatives.
  • Oversee individual unit development by course teachers.
  • Assess student achievement to design and deliver differentiated lessons to close the achievement gap, and help students meet the Wyoming State Academic and Content Standards.
  • Provide clear and reasonable recommendations for transitioning students back to a district school or program.
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date attendance, tardy time, point and strike, Friday Activity, and special education records.

Attend all aspects of the students well being and growth within the classroom.

  • Maintain a dialogue with the other teachers, therapists, and childcare staff regarding the students’ academic and behavioral progress and difficulties.
  • Attend quarterly case review meetings with each therapist to review individual student goals, progress, and needs.
  • Communicate with the therapist any information relevant to the parents as they are the primary communication conduit to the family. Be responsive to parent requests.

Provide instruction and resources to classroom aids

Provide differentiated instruction and materials, instruct classroom aids on the special needs of individual students, and provide clear direction on how to meet those needs.

Link classroom lessons to our Therapeutic Adventure Programming.

  • Actively find ways to link the lessons learned in the wilderness and the classroom. Help students generalize between the two experiences
  • Add expertise to the wilderness curriculum and be a model for expected behavior when on a wilderness excursion.

Other Job Duties:

  • Participate in goal setting and self-assessment to determine strengths and areas needing improvement.
  • Attend professional development as needed.
  • Attend required meetings and trainings required by Teton Youth and Family Services.

Minimum Qualifications 
  • A degree in Education or equivalent experience.
  • A valid Wyoming teaching license or the ability to earn one in a timely fashion
  • A clear understanding of and commitment to the principles of confidentiality in our work.
  • Desire to be a positive role model for students
  • Ability to pass a background check
